Timber Windows and Doors in York

Fantastic timber windows and door installation completed for Mr and Mrs Milton…

One of our recent projects took us to the beautiful outskirts of York to complete a full renovation of Mr and Mrs Milton’s current windows and doors. For this project, it was clear that this breath-taking 1820’s cottage needed some major TLC.

Prior to starting our work, Mr and Mrs Milton explained to our team “At some time in the past, the cottage was given dark sash windows, which were of poor quality – they rattled, had thin single glazing and were the source of many draughts”. Not only was this choice poor in terms of practicality, but it also made the cottage dark and dreary, something that the couple wanted to change immediately.

Though Mr and Mrs Milton had a clear vision of what they wanted their home to look like, our team still consulted with them to ensure their choices would be perfect to achieve the outcomes they so desperately desired. After working closely with our design team, Mr and Mrs Milton decided Cottage Flush Casement Windows would be an ideal choice.

Due to their traditional appearance, wooden casement windows would ensure that the style of the property would not look too modern against a more period backdrop. However, this still created a noticeable change from what had been in place previously, and gave Mr and Mrs Milton’s home a new lease of life.

To complement their new wooden windows, the couple also chose a French Grey colour finish with 18mm astragal glazing bars. Additionally, they decided on a Staverton timber entrance door in a matching colour too. Their new entrance door was detailed with black ironmongery and leaded glass.

Coordinating the colour of both the windows and door allowed for a new, cohesive look to the front of the home, whilst the black ironmongery added a pop of individuality and improved the houses curb appeal.

The benefits of having timber windows and wooden doors installed have been endless for Mr and Mrs Milton. Mrs Milton comments “We’ve had the new windows and doors in for a year now, and have been through a winter too – we even turned the thermostat down as the house is so much warmer.” Alongside this, the couple are also experiencing noise benefits too due to our argon filled double glazing “although rural, we live on quite a busy, pass-through road, and we barely hear anything from outside now, not even the rain!”.

Mr and Mrs Milton prove that designing a home with timber windows and doors provides a multitude of benefits beyond simply aesthetics. If you’d like to read about Mr and Mrs Milton’s project in more depth, click here: https://timberwindowsnorth.com/case-study/mr-mrs-milton/
