Leaded lights in Alwoodley
Built to a 1930’s style but post war, this detached family home in Alwoodley had old aluminium patio doors and rotten wooden windows with failed double glazed units. Mr and Mrs Williams, who relocated from London and moved into the property almost 30 years ago, decided that they wanted to replace their windows and doors with something far better at keeping the heat in whilst remaining sympathetic to the property. Shopping around to find the best material and style, Mr and Mrs Williams decided on replacing the windows and doors with timber, stating “Your wooden windows carried much better guarantees than the top of the range aluminium competition, that combined with the far superior appearance made our decision easy”
The 2 sets of tired old patio doors were replaced with 1 set of bifolding doors and a pair of French doors. Windows and bays were replaced with our lipped casement style with a bespoke, lead layout to match that of the existing. The front door was designed to match the original – keeping plenty of light and the same lead design. All of the windows were finished in ‘Straw’ with 9mm aged lead with welded joints. The glazed front door was finished in ‘Fortnum’ with brass hardware to create an airy, bright hallway.
Mr and Mrs Williams are delighted with the transformation, commenting “We had a great deal of faith right from the outset, the purchase was very smooth and well informed and a lot of care was taken by Malcolm to get the correct ratio’s on the lead work, it looks fantastic!”
“The installation team took a great deal of care not to damage the internal decoration and the external render”
“We can no longer hear heavy rain on the gravel outside, the sound insulation is terrific”
“The temperature in the house is now far easier to moderate now, we’re very please with the result and would definitely do it again – we’ve already recommended you to our neighbour”
